2018 Summer Series
100th Agility Nuts Independent Show!
The Agility Nuts Summer Show 1 at Bilsthorpe Sportsground will be the 100th Independent show we have held since our first show way back in August 2008.
Originally planned as a one-off, the Agility Nuts Independent shows quickly developed into something more. The winter of 2008-09 saw our first 5-show Winter Series at Trent Valley Equestrian Centre which was followed by a 4 show Summer Series at Parkland Stables in Ruddington, famed for the amazing hospitality of the venue owners, not to mention the challenging bridge on to the venue!
Within a couple of years we were running 11 independent shows a year plus 1 Kennel Club Show, which switched to 10 independent shows plus 2 Kennel Club Shows in 2013. Ruddington hosted our summer shows until the end of 2011 and, after a couple of years assessing a few different venues, Bilsthorpe Sportsground with it's amazing running surface became our regular venue from May 2014. Trent Valley hosted our Winter Shows up to the end of the 2013-14 season after which we moved to Oakridge Arena where we continue to hold shows with 2 large netted rings over the winter months.
The Agility Nuts Independent shows have always allowed 4 runs per day for all dogs, including veterans, the only exception being the simple runs for Nursery dogs (16-24 months) introduced for the 2012-13 winter series. We allow training in the ring and NFC runs meaning that dogs can run at whatever height they want should they wish to do so. We've always had an overlap of dog heights so that large mediums and small larges can run at medium height, for example. We introduced the concept of ABL (Anything But Large) classes, where all dogs other than large dogs compete against each other, at our very first show and this format, popular with our competitors remains today. We also introduced our annual Triathlon event into our summer schedule back in 2012, an event that combines running (not long!), obedience (not formal) and agility (or rather jumping) with special prizes for the winner. With netted rings, the Agility Nuts Summer and Winter Series shows are the perfect shows to get your dogs used to the competition environment.
Since the very first show Agility Nuts have had ringside laptops for inputting results and a live display of results as they happen in the Office area. It means we have a complete record of every run at all of our shows. We run Leagues for different levels (Elementary, Starters, Novice and Senior) and for Veterans with Dog of The Season Awards presented at the end of each Winter and Summer Series. We always enjoy a friendly and competitive atmosphere at our shows.
And so we approach Show 100. To celebrate, we will be making some special presentations including Most Wins and Most Eliminations (!) amongst others. We will also be offering competitors the chance to win £100 worth of Agility Nuts entries at the show, but you'll have to be there on both days to improve your chances of winning!
Many people have enjoyed the shows from the very beginning, but special thanks must be made to Hazel and Sue who have helped us in the office at every single show, and to Jane, Viv, Jayne, Natalie and Ann who have kept things running smoothly around the rings for us for so many years now.
We still have 3 more shows to get through before we get there so if you want to join us at Oakridge Arena for our January 21st (accepting pay on the day), February 11th and March 3rd you can enter online at www.firstplaceprocessing.com. Our first Kennel Club show of the year at Thoresby Park on April 7-8 is also available to enter.
